What is GMO
A genetically modified organism (GMO) is a plant, animal, microorganism or any other living being whose genetic makeup has been modified in a laboratory through a genetic engineering or transgenic technology.
Are GMOs safe?
There is no scientific consensus on the safety of GMO, however, it has a significant environmental impact. As with organic certified products, demand for non-GMOs has considerably increased over the last decade as a result of growing consumer awareness.
Why Non-GMOs are important?
Organic standards have set the rules for crop growth, raising animals, and pest treatments, prohibiting the use of any GMO. However, they do not set thresholds nor test for their presence. The Non-GMO program requires ongoing and specific testing at critical control points throughout all the production process.
